Malakoff Participates in Record Breaking  Karas Tree Planting Programme

Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff), a Member of MMC Group participated in the Karas Tree Planting Programme held in Ledang, Johor. Datuk Ir. Dr. Haji Hamim Samuri, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment officiated the programme accompanied by Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Kamarulnajuib Bin Che Ibrahim, Director General, Department of Environment (DOE), Dato’ Dr. Mohammad Ezanni bin Mat Salleh, State Director, Johor DOE, Dato' Dr. Sukarno bin Wagiman, Director General, Department of Marine Park Malaysia and Datuk Dr. Abd. Latif Mohmod, Director General, Forest Research Institute Malaysia.


During the programme, a total of 3,114 karas trees or better known as agarwood (gaharu) were planted at three different locations namely Kampung Parit Kasan, Bukit Gambir; Kampung Pulau Penarik, Sungai Mati and Bandar Baharu Tangkak.


15 Malakoff staff joined the Ledang community and successfully created a new Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) on 31 December 2016 for the most number of karas tree planting in one day.


Datuk Ir. Dr. Hamim Samuri in his opening speech thanked everyone who participated in the programme, including Malakoff. He added, “Your presence today proved your concern and commitment towards environmental activities.”


“In addition to instilling public awareness on the importance of the environment, this programme aims to encourage the community to preserve and conserve the ecosystem. Therefore, I urge everyone to protect and nurture the trees in order for them to flourish,” said Datuk Ir. Dr. Hamim Samuri.


Nooradibah Musa from Malakoff said, “Today, I had the opportunity to learn about karas tree and to plant it myself. Malakoff’s participation in this programme is consistent with the company’s objective to be a responsible corporate citizen towards preserving and conserving the environment.”


The programme ended with Nurasyikin Ramli, MBOR official, handing over the MBOR certificate of achievement to Datuk Ir. Dr. Hamim Samuri.
