MMC Corporation Berhad (MMC) organised a familiarisation visit to the oldest and longest established port in Malaysia, Penang Port, for members of the media based in Kuala Lumpur.

The media delegation to Penang, comprising 18 journalists and photographers from several media organisations such as TV3, RTM, The Star, New Straits Times, Utusan Malaysia, Berita Harian, Bernama, The Malaysian Reserve, Nanyang Siang Pau, The Sun, Sin Chew Daily and Kosmo was led by Azlina Ashar, Head of Group Corporate Communications, MMC Corporation Berhad. The familiarisation visit was a good platform to strengthen MMC’s relationship with the media and promote the port as the latest addition under the MMC Group.

Upon arrival, the delegates were received by Sasedharan Vasudevan, Chief Executive Officer of Penang Port along with several management team members. The agenda for the day began with an introduction to Penang Port and its operations followed by a port tour.

Members of the media were then taken for a two-hour boat ride to view the Prai Bulk Cargo Terminal, Prai Wharves, Butterworth Wharves Cargo Terminal and North Butterworth Container Terminal up close before ending the tour a view of an 18-deck, 3,352-passenger luxury mega cruise, Genting Dream docked at Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal. The Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal is the latest terminal in Penang Port, which was officially opened in 2010. The visit was concluded with a hi-tea session and a Q&A session with the media.

The initiative provided an unforgettable experience for the members of the media to learn more about the MMC Group and garnered positive coverage in newspapers, TV, radio and online.
