Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group, once again participated in the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM)’s tour series as one of the corporate sponsors for its 2018 tournaments. The PGM Northport Championship 2018 was held at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club, Shah Alam from 25 to 28 July 2018.


For this year’s edition, PGM has included the PGM Ladies Tour as part of the PGM Northport Championship. The event gathered professional golfers comprising 114 men and 10 ladies from local and abroad. Hosted in partnership with the Asian Tour and Asian Development Tour (ADT), the Championship offered a total prize money of RM225,000 for Men’s category and RM35,000 for Ladies’ category.


American Josh Salah clinched the Men’s championship title when he beat Shakhawat Sohel of Bangladesh in a playoff after both players were tied at 13-under par at the end of regulation play. Malaysian Kemarol Baharin was the best-placed local in the field after securing third position at the Championship with 11-under par.


Meanwhile, in the all-Malaysian Ladies’ category, Aretha Pan won the title with Michelle Koh and Dianne Luke finishing second and third positions respectively.


The winner of the PGM Northport Championship Men’s category walked away with a cash prize of RM39,975 while the Ladies’ category winner took home RM11,000.  Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive officer of Northport together with Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, Chairman of PGM gave away the prizes to all winners.


PGM is a non-profit organisation, established with the objective of promoting the sport of golf and contributing towards its growth. The PGM Northport Champion¬ship is the 10th leg on the ADT’s 2018 calendar and the leading seven players on the ADT Order of Merit at the end of the season will earn playing rights on the premier Asian Tour for the 2019 season.
