Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB) and Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), members of MMC Group, were granted Gold Class awards by the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH).

A total of 176 companies were audited and both PPSB and Northport were selected by a panel of auditors as winners of the ‘MSOSH OSH Gold Class 2 Awards’. The panel of auditors consisted of representatives from Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Social Security Organisation, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers, SIRIM Berhad, Malaysia Employers Federation, MSOSH, multinational corporations and private companies.

Mr Ian James, Group Chief Executive Officer of MMC Port Holdings Sdn Bhd (MMC Ports) received the award on behalf of PPSB whilst Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Northport received the award at the 36th Occupational Safety and Health Awards organised by MSOSH. The event was launched by Yang Berhormat Datuk Mahfuz Omar, Deputy Minister of Human Resources at the Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur.

MSOSH is a non-profit, non-governmental and non-political organisation whose objectives include creating safety and health awareness among employers and employees, enhancing cooperation between employers and employees on matters pertaining to Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), to publish and circulate statistics and information obtained by the Society to facilitate the prevention of accidents and to promote the safety of employees; and to be the main link of communication with Asia Pacific Occupational Safety and Health Organisation and Japan International Centre of Occupational Safety and Health.

It was an honour for MMC Ports to receive these awards as it demonstrates our commitment to ensuring outstanding levels of Safety and Health standards at our ports.
