Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (SATSSB), a member of MMC Group, conducted a full-scale emergency exercise led by the Airport Fire and Rescue Services Department (AFRS) aiming at ensuring the level of readiness and coordination of the airport authority and relevant agencies in the event of air disaster.

More than 300 participants from various agencies including Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia (CAAM), Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia, National Security Council, Pejabat Keselamatan Kerajaan Malaysia, Royal Malaysian Police, Malaysia Civil Defence Department, Ministry of Health and airlines representatives among others took part in measuring their effectiveness and response time.

According to the exercise scenario, an ATR72 flight carrying 57 passengers was travelling from Subang to Johor Bahru, when a technical issue occurred during its final approach causing the flight to skid and crash-off the runway opposite the cargo terminal area. Firefighters from AFRS battled out to extinguish fire with three fire tenders including the airport’s newest addition, the ‘Rosenbauer’s Phanter’ which comes with High Range Extendable Turret (HRET) feature.

The full-scale exercise was carried out as per the Airport Emergency Plan, a documented procedure and contingency plan to attain corresponding action among all relevant stakeholders based on the distinct guidelines in compliance with the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organisation and CAAM.
