Experiencing MAPA Mini Marathon

The Penangites’ Way

This year’s ASEAN Ports Association Malaysia (MAPA) Mini Marathon 2019 came to the Pearl of the Orient, Penang. Penang Port SdnBhd (PPSB), a member of MMC Group, and Suruhanjaya Pelabuhan Pulau Pinang (SPPP) jointly hosted the run on 24 February and brought our marathon experience to the next level.

A total of 16 contingents from SPPP, PPSB, Lembaga Pelabuhan Klang, Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor, Lembaga Pelabuhan Kuantan, Lembaga Pelabuhan Bintulu (LPB), Lembaga Pelabuhan Pelabuhan Sabah, Lembaga Pelabuhan Kuching, Lembaga Pelabuhan Rajang, Lembaga Pelabuhan Miri, Westport (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (WPSB), Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas, Kuantan Port Consortium, Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd, Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd (SPSB), and Northport Berhad participated in the run.

They arrived in Penang a day before and a sumptuous welcoming dinner was served at Tanjung City Marina later in the evening. Dato’ Syed Mohamad bin Syed Murtaza, Chairman of PPSB and also President of the Penang Amateur Athletic Association, and Puan Monaliza binti Suhaimi, Senior Manager for Finance and Management Services cum Acting General Manager of SPPP, were invited to the dinner.

The next day saw the participants at City Stadium Pulau Pinang as early as 5am. At 7am sharp, Dato’ Syed Mohamad bin Syed Murtaza flagged off the first category of runners, the men’s open 10km, then followed by women’s veteran 5km, men’s veteran 5km, and lastly women’s open 5km.

The overall champion was SPSB, first runner up was LPB, and second runner up by WPSB. On hand to present the medals were Mr Sasedharan Vasudevan, CEO of PPSB, and Puan Monaliza binti Suhaimi.

“It was heart-warming seeing everyone come together for the run after three years. May we meet again”, said Mohd Nazruz Haqim Ahmad Nazri, President for MAPA Mini Marathon 2019.
