NEXT NEWS Northport Joins the World in Promoting  Safety and Health at Work

Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group, organised the Safety and Health Day 2019 in conjunction with the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. The programme is celebrated every year on the 28 April, to promote the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally. It is an awareness-raising campaign intended to focus international attention on emerging trends in the field of occupational safety and health and on the magnitude of work-related injuries, diseases and fatalities worldwide. As set by the International Labor Organization, the theme of this year's celebration is 'Safety & Health and the Future of Work'.

Northport’s Safety and Health Day 2019 event was launched by Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Northport. Also present during the launch event were En Ahmad Kahar Abu Bakar, Deputy Director of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health Selangor; En Shaiful Nazri Shaari, Assistant General Manager of Port Klang Authority; Dr Shivanesh Sivalingam of Port Klang Public Health Specialist Centre; as well as representatives from Malaysia Road Safety Department and Social Safety Organisation (PERKESO).

During the event, Northport recognised its outstanding employees with the ‘Best Safety Performer Awards’ for their exemplary commitment on safety. For this year, a special recognition was accorded to Bador Hisham Hashim with the Safety Exemplary Award for his commendable action of reporting a hit-and-run accident case in Northport’s terminal.

To promote and encourage a healthy culture among Northport employees, a newly renovated and refurbished gymnasium of Northport Recreational Club was officially launched during the event. The improved gymnasium facility is equipped with new and modern equipment to attract Northport employees to live active and healthy lifestyle.

Various other activities were also organised throughout Northport’s Safety and Health Day 2019 programme which included free health screening services by Sri Kota Medical Centre and exhibition booths by National Anti-Drug Agency, BookDoc, Malaysia Road Safety Department and PERKESO.
