Northport Wins Gold Award at

Mini Team Excellence Convention 2019

Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group, clinched a Gold Award at the Mini Team Excellence (MTEx) Convention 2019 for Central Region category at Shah Alam Convention Centre. Northport won the top category with a project titled ‘Long MTTR (Mean-Time-To-Repair) to QC (Quay Crane) Operation During Breakdown Due to Power Outage’ at the convention which was organised by the Malaysia Productivity Corporation.

The award is a recognition of Northport team’s effort in formulating and implementing methods to reduce repair time of quay cranes during power outage. Through analytical precision, creativity and hard work among members of TeamNorthport, this initiative has successfully achieved 100 percent reduction in quay cranes’ MTTR due to power outage and power dip, from an average of 1.94 hour to 0.0 hour. The project, which kicked off in January 2017, adopted the method of Plan, Do, Check, and Act (PDCA) for its implementation.

A total of 12 companies and Government agencies participated in MTEx including Petronas Chemical LDPE Sdn Bhd, Pos Aviation Sdn Bhd, University Malaya Medical Centre and Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan. Each team presented their projects and the winner was evaluated by a panel of experienced judges based on project selection, creativity, improvement analysis, values and achievement.

MTEx provides a platform for quality circle practitioners to learn from the experiences and good practices of other organisations. Each participating team applies various quality improvement tools and techniques in showcasing their various innovative projects. The Gold Award is another significant milestone and a testament of Northport’s highly competent and innovative talents who have demonstrated their full and tireless commitment to strive for excellence.
