From 10 - 13 September 2019, MMC Group (MMC) participated in the World Maritime Week 2019 Malaysia (WMW 2019) held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.  The WMW 2019 was co-organised by the Ministry of Transport and Marine Department of Malaysia and co-hosted by Malaysia Shipowners’ Association (MASA) and Ikhtisas Kelautan Malaysia (IKMAL).  WMW 2019 was officiated by YB Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport Malaysia with the presence of high-profile dignitaries YBhg Dato' Baharin bin Dato' Abd Hamid, Director General Marine Department Malaysia and YBhg Dato’ Ir. Abdul Hak Md Amin, Chairman of Malaysia Shipowners’ Association.  


One of the key highlights of the event was the IKMAL Presidential Lecture delivered by YABhg Tun Daim Zainuddin, Past Chairman, Council of Eminent Persons entitled “Malaysia’s Maritime Industry: What Lies in the Future?”. As an icon of being knowledgeable in the economic sector and business field in our country, YABhg Tun Daim Zainuddin wowed the audience with his insights on current maritime scenario and its prospect in the Malaysia’s economy.


In a view of MMC’s significant involvement in Malaysia’s maritime industry, YBhg Dato’ Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, our Group Managing Director was honoured to be invited as a moderator for the IKMAL Presidential Lecture. Others attended at this prestigious event were Shahrull Allam Shah Abdul Halim, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Johor Port Berhad, Marco Neelsen, CEO of Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd, Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, CEO of Northport (Malaysia) Bhd, Sasedharan Vasudevan, CEO of Penang Port Sdn Bhd and senior management team of MMC Group.  The session gathered more than 350 participants from captains of Malaysia’s maritime industry, government maritime officials and other luminaries associated with shipping.


During the IKMAL Presidential Lecture, YBhg Dato’ Sri Che Khalib also handed over a contribution of RM20,000 to Captain Zuradi Zainol Abidin, President of IKMAL for the IKMAL’s Seafarers Education Fund which grants to deserving IKMAL’s members who are undertaking maritime courses towards upgrading their certificates of competency.


The four-day event also saw participation of MMC Ports as an exhibitor in line with the Group’s continuous effort to create brand awareness and on-going Group stakeholder engagement to strengthen relationship with business partners, customers and government entities.
