From 15 to 29 July 2019, Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group, hosted the 40th Regiment of the Royal Army Engineers Regiment (RAJD)’s Annual Training Camp, Series 5/2019. The opening ceremony was graced by Dato' Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Northport at Surau Al Hidayah open area on 18 July 2019.


The training camp involved four officers and 52 members of different ranks and files from Northport and Port Klang Authority (PKA). Throughout the two-week training camp, the participants went through military training activities including marching, five-kilometer fast walking, rugged walking, firearms control, technical training, community and sports activities. There was also an open interview to recruit new members to join the Port Specialist Regiment also known as the 40th Regiment.


A shooting training was also held towards the end of the programme at Kem Perdana Sungai Besi, as one of the training camp highlights. Several agencies were invited to participate in the shooting programme including Penang Port, Port Klang Authority (PKA) and Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team. RAJD is a group combat support military unit of the Malaysian Army that provides combat engineering and other engineering support to the Army. Specialist Handling Regiment is a volunteer reserve regiment and squadron of the Territorial Army Regiment. These units specialise in handling  ports, waterworks, railway, power plant/electric supply and telecommunications.


The annual training camp was organised to provide the volunteers, who are also ports employees, with military training and expose them with their roles and functions during emergency or disaster.


Besides fulfilling the compulsory requirement as regulated by the Malaysian Armed Forces, this event aims at developing and maintaining the organisational effectiveness and readiness to face the future challenges of the port industry.
