International & Senai Airport City Run for Cancer

Johor Port Berhad (Johor Port), Port of Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (Senai Airport International) and Senai Airport City, MMC Group Southern Region Port Operating Companies (MMC Southern OpCos) participated in the Laksamana Run 2019 as part of its corporate social responsibility programmes create better awareness on fighting cancer and support cancer patients.


Held at Dataran Mahkota, Kota Iskandar in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bahru, the Laksamana Run 2019 is an annual charity colour run in Johor organised by Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation (TLJCF). 20 runners from the MMC Southern OpCos joined the event that saw more than 3,500 took part in the event which featured a 5km Fun Run and a mini carnival.


Participants were flagged off by Che’ Puan Khaleeda Bustamam, wife of Crown Price of Johor (Tunku Mahkota Johor) Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim. Representing MMC Group at the event were Md Derick Basir, Chief Executive Officer of Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd.


The Laksamana Run 2019 has managed to collect RM1.17 million this to help the financially challenged cancer fighters in Johor, who are mainly from the B40 group who can’t af­ford ex­pen­sive treat­ment. The proceeds will also be utilised to help fund cancer facilities, provide financial assistance and support services to cancer patients. Since 2016, the foun­da­tion has es­tab­lished three treat­ment fa­cil­i­ties in Jo­hor — the Tunku Laksamana Jo­hor On­col­ogy Com­plex at Hospi­tal Per­mai, Jo­hor Baru; Tunku Lak­samana Jo­hor On­col­ogy Treat­ment Cen­tre at Sul­tanah Fa­timah Spe­cial­ist Hospi­tal in Muar; and, Tunku Lak­samana Jo­hor He­ma­tol­ogy Treat­ment Cen­tre at Sul­tanah Ami­nah Hospi­tal.


Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation was inspired by Almarhum Tunku Abdul Jalil Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Laksamana Johor and was incorporated on 26th June 2015. The foundation aims to build a generation which is aware and emphatic towards cancer and to assist, provide relief as well as to care for cancer patients and their families while promoting public awareness in the prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer.


The participation of Johor Port, PTP, Senai Airport International and Senai Airport City in Laksamana Run 2019 is also part of MMC Group’s continuous effort to increase brand awareness of MMC Group and as an on-going Group stakeholders’ engagement initiative to strengthen relationship between the Group and its relevant business partners including the customers and government entities.
