Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB), a member of MMC Group, conducted an emergency and rescue drill together with the stakeholders involved in the development of the T1 North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT) Project.

The drill was based on a scenario where workers were moving steel piles from the barge to the pier when suddenly strong wind has caused the steel piles to swing, resulting a chaotic situation as the fire was added to the welding work area. The incident has caused serious injuries to four workers.

The objectives of this exercise were to strengthen the emergency response plan as well as to evaluate the level of preparedness of PPSB and contractors in managing emergency incidents during the on-going expansion of the wharf.

This will further improve the response and effectiveness of internal departments and units such as Marine Services, Project & Facilities Department, Container Business Department, Port Police Unit, Fire & Rescue Unit, OSHE Unit, and Risk Management Unit of the company. All parties were satisfied with the outcome of the drill and it shows that PPSB is always aware and prepared for any emergency.
