PTP Boosts Terminal Capability with Super Post Panamax Cranes

Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a member of MMC Group, welcomed four units of its latest Ultra Large Container Vessel Shore to Shore (ULCV STS) quay cranes as the company continues its drive to optimise services and capacity.

The purchased of the Super Post Panamax cranes is part of PTP’s Asset Management Strategy, aimed at improving the efficiency of the terminal, by increasing container handling capacity, capability and reliability whilst meeting its safety standards. With 55.5 metre height and 1,900 tonnes weight, these cranes have a lifting capacity of 65 tonnes and are capable of handling containers over 24-rows across ultra large container vessels.

The arrival of these Super Post Panamax cranes was part of a purchase agreement, signed with ZPMC, Shanghai in April 2019 for the supply of eight units ULCV STS quay cranes. The remaining four units are expected to be delivered in third quarter of 2020 to bring a total of 66 STS cranes in operation at PTP, to be positioned along its 5 kilometre jetty, of which 24 are Triple-E compliant.

This latest addition of equipment capability is a clear testament that PTP is one of the best equipped and most technologically advanced terminals in the region. It demonstrates PTP’s aspiration to meet the market demand and thereby becoming the preferred port of choice in the region.
