Northport (Malaysia) Bhd’s sportsmen excelled at the ASEAN Ports Association (APA)’s 12th Sports Meet held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from 10 - 13 May 2016.


Abdul Aziz Borhanuddin, Northport’s Head of Industrial Relations and Employee Benefit made the Malaysian contingent proud after assisting ASEAN Ports Association Malaysia (MAPA) to win the gold medal in the golf tournament under team category (VIP). Aziz also won bronze medal in the individual category (Gross Score). In badminton, Northport’s Suhaimi Jaafar and Hassan Ali Pian won bronze in Men’s Double category.


A total of 4 Northport’s sportsmen were sent by MAPA to represent Malaysian ports in the tournament together with 80 athletes from various ports in Malaysia. The tournament drew some 419 athletes from APA member nations, competing in the sports of golf, futsal, tennis, badminton, half marathon and table tennis. PT Pelabuhan Indonesia I, II, III, and IV (Persero) emerged as the overall champion in this year’s tournament after bagging 19 gold, 14 silver, and 9 bronze medals.


The triennial event is organised to promote cooperation among APA member countries, comprising Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the host country, Vietnam.
