On 8 November 2016, Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) and Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), subsidiaries of MMC Port Holdings Sdn Bhd (MMC Ports), received the APSN Green Port Award System (GPAS) in conjunction with the APEC Port Services Network (APSN) Workshop on Safety of Dangerous Goods at Ports event held at G Hotel, Penang.

Yang Berhormat Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi, Deputy Minister of Transport, presented the awards to En Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Northport and En Muhammad Abdullah Hatta, PTP’s Deputy Chief Officer during the opening ceremony of the APSN Workshop on Safety of Dangerous Goods at Ports. Also present at the event were representatives from local and international ports as well as industry players.  

Mr Ian Brian James, Group Chief Executive Officer of MMC Ports also attended the event as one of the speakers during the APSN Workshop on Safety of Dangerous Goods at Ports and presented his topic titled ‘MMC Ports: Risk Management & Prevention: Our Culture!’.

MMC Ports’ latest achievement is the result of the ports’ collective efforts and initiatives to reduce environmental and energy footprints using sustainable business processes. Beyond the major focus on fuel usage, MMC Ports is also focused on reducing inefficient energy use and recycling where possible via introduction of modern energy efficient technology, strengthening its waste management system, environmental management system as well as promoting environmental awareness to its local community through various Corporate Social Responsibility programmes such as mangrove planting and sea grass rehabilitation projects.
