SATS Conducts Airport Emergency Exercise

On 21 November 2016, Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (SATSSB) organised an Airport Emergency Exercise at the airside field of Senai International Airport.

The main objectives of this exercise were to test the level of readiness and to ensure the effectiveness of coordination and communications between the airport operator, airlines and related agencies when handling such an emergency. This Airport Emergency Exercise need to be carried out once in every two years in accordance to the requirement set by the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and International Civil Aviation (ICAO).

During the exercise, a scenario was created where an Airbus A320-200 aircraft carrying 5 crews and 80 passengers ‘burst into flames’ after a rough emergency landing caused by landing gear technical failure. The Airport Fire Rescue Services rushed to the site and managed to clear the fire within 3 minutes, which is followed the standard response time allocated by ICAO.

This emergency exercise involved more than 300 personnel from various agencies including Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM), Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), Ministry of Health, Fire and Rescue Department, Customs Department, Immigration Department, MATA Aviation College’s students, tenants, SATSSB’s airport staffs including Malaysia Airlines, Airasia, Malindo and Firefly.
