YAB Dato’ Seri Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, the Prime Minister of Malaysia today successfully launched the second phase of the Sungai Buloh - Kajang (SBK) line for the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT). Phase two of the SBK line runs from the Semantan Station to the Stadium Kajang Station and has 19 stations across 30 km.


The launch ceremony was attended by YAB Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Wife of Prime Minister, YAB Dato' Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi, Deputy Prime Minister,  YBhg Tan Sri Dr. Ali Hamsa, Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia and Chairman of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp), YB Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Minister of Transport, YB Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Minister of Finance II, YB Dato' Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Minister of Works, YB Dato' Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry, YBhg Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, Chairman of National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and YBhg Dato’ Sri Shahril Mokhtar, Chief Executive Officer of MRT Corp.


Also present to witness the launch at Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) Station were YBhg Tan Sri Syed Abdul Jabbar bin Shahabuddin, Advisor of MMC Corporation Berhad (MMC), Dato’ Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, Group Managing Director of MMC, En. Mohd Shahar Yope, Group Chief Financial Officer of MMC and Ir. Chee Weng Loon, Director of Engineering & Construction, MMC.


Speaking at the launch, YAB Dato’ Seri Najib said “the SBK line is a game-changer as it will bring drastic changes to the lives of Malaysians and tourists.”


The Prime Minister also praised MMC Gamuda for completing the project two weeks ahead of schedule with a lower budget. "The original cost set for this project was RM23 billion, but we managed to complete it with RM21 billion. We saved almost RM2 billion. This is indeed a proud achievement,” shared YAB Dato’ Seri Najib.


The SBK line has a total of 31 stations, with seven of them underground, namely Muzium Negara, Pasar Seni, Merdeka, Bukit Bintang, Tun Razak Exchange, Cochrane and Maluri. The TRX station is the deepest station along the entire 51km route at 40m deep, equivalent to approximately 13 storeys.


Phase 1 of the SBK line was launched by YAB Dato’ Seri Najib on 15 December 2016.  MMC Gamuda KVMRT (PDP) Sdn Bhd is the project delivery partner for the SBK Line and Sungai Buloh - Serdang - Putrajaya (SSP) line.
