Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (SATSSB), a Member of MMC Group celebrated 2017 with the arrival of two new international flights; from Jakarta operated by AirAsia and from Shenzhen, operated by Spring Airlines.
The Jakarta inaugural flight arrived on 10 January 2017 and was greeted by the Guest of Honor, Mr Haris Nugroho, Consulate General of Indonesian Republic in Johor Bahru, Jackson Lee, AirAsia Johor Bahru Station Manager, Magdlane Tuborng Melai, Director of Ministry of Tourism and Culture Johor, Noor Safura Suib, SATSSB’s Chief Operations Officer along with representatives from the Johor state tourism agencies.
Three days later on 13 January 2017, the first Shenzhen flight arrived and welcomed by the Guest of Honor, YBhg Datuk Tee Siew Kiong, State Tourism, Domestic Trade and Consumerism EXCO, Gaddafie Abd Aziz, Tourism Johor Director, Dr Yu Runze, Country Garden Pacificview’s Chief Strategy Officer and Md Derick Basir, SATSSB’s Chief Executive Officer accompanied by other representatives from the Johor state tourism agencies.
The passengers and crews were celebrated with Johor traditional performances showcasing Jidur percussions, Ghazal performance and traditional Bugis dance by cultural groups from Jabatan Kesenian dan Kebudayaan Negara (Johor).
Jakarta and Shenzhen are the fifth and sixth international route from Senai Airport after Ho Chi Minh, Bangkok, Surabaya and Guangzhou. The Jakarta flight is scheduled to depart three times weekly on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday whereas the Shenzhen flight is scheduled to depart every Monday and Friday.
Senai Airport recorded a 43.4% hike of international flights passengers in 2016 compared to 2015, growing from 300,745 passengers in 2015 to 431,357 passengers in 2016. Overall, Senai International Airport registered a positive growth of 9.5%. with a total of 2,828,074 passengers recorded at the end of 2016 compared to 2,581,966 passengers in 2015.
