Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a Member of MMC Group participated in a humanitarian mission called ‘Food Flotilla For Myanmar’ by providing warehousing and terminal handling services to load more than 2,200 tonnes of rice, medical aid, daily provisions and other essential supplies onto Nautical Aliya, a charter ship used for the historic mission.


The humanitarian mission is a collaborative effort by NGOs from various countries led by Kelab Putera 1Malaysia (KP1M) and Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organisation (MAPIM) aimed to help Rohingya ethnic in Myanmar who are currently in need of help. Apart from the humanitarian aid supplies, Nautical Aliya also ferried more than 230 participants from 13 countries including NGO members, media practitioners, medical team, politicians, religious leaders and volunteers. Nautical Aliya arrived at Wharf 3 in Northport Southpoint on 2 February 2017 for the aid supplies loading operations. The mission departed Port Klang on 3 February 2017 after a flag off ceremony by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Hj. Abdul Razak at Boustead Cruise Centre, Pulau Indah, Port Klang.


Preparation at Northport was made weeks ahead of the ship’s arrival with participation from the organizer’s representatives, Northport’s operations team, shipping agent and other relevant parties. Northport provided Warehouse A8 for the purpose of storage and re-packing work of the supplies into hundreds of jumbo bags. The first shipment of the supplies was received at Warehouse A8 in Northport Southpoint on 26 January 2017.


Food Flotilla for Myanmar marks the third involvement by Northport in providing facilities and expertise to handle logistics and port services for Malaysia’s major humanitarian missions. Northport’s first involvement was in 2005 to help tsunami victims in Aceh and in 2013 for a similar mission to deliver humanitarian aid supplies to Rohingya ethnic in Myanmar by sea.
