PTP Welcomes Mediterranean Shipping
Company’s First LNG-Fueled Containership,
MSC Washington on Its Maiden Voyage
Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP), a member of MMC Group welcomed a maiden voyage from MSC Washington, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC)’s first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)-powered dual fuel 14K TEUs Ultra Large Container Vessel (ULCV).
The maiden voyage of MSC Washington to PTP was commemorated at a small but meaningful event attended by representatives from both PTP and MSC including Joe Schofield, Chief Operating Officer of PTP, Prakash Thurairasasingam, Head of Commercial of PTP, Captain Miranda Mukesh Mahendra, Captain of MSC Washington, along with several other management officers from both organisations.
MSC Washington is the first LNG-fuelled containership chartered by Mediterranean Shipping Company.The vessel is 335 metres in length and 51 metres wide, has a design draft of 17 metres with a nominal carrying capacity of 14,428 TEUs. Officially delivered in April, MSC Washington is scheduled to make the next port of call at Laem Chabang, Thailand after PTP.
The berthing of MSC’s Washington at PTP is a testament of PTP’s capacity and capability to accommodate mega size vessels and reflects strong confidence by vessel operators towards PTP’s ability and commitment in serving the needs of its customers.
