2023 | Quarter 2

MAIN EDITOR'S NOTE HIGHLIGHTS IN BUSINESS ENGAGEMENTS CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

Hi and welcome to the second edition of The Hub!

As we dive into another exciting quarter of 2023, we have prepared for you, our esteemed readers, a compilation of 26 initiatives that have been conducted across the Group for the past three months.

For starters, we are proud to announce that MMC has conducted a collaboration with Alam Flora Sdn Bhd in a recycling campaign at the MMC headquarters. Aimed at raising awareness about the importance of recycling and encouraging responsible waste management practices among the employees, this collective effort managed to gather over 900 kilograms of recyclable materials. Under the same light, in conjunction with World Environment Day, Northport (Malaysia) Bhd also collaborated with Alam Flora Environmental Solutions Sdn Bhd to organise the Port Reception Facilities (PRF) Open Day which was attended by more than 200 people comprising port workers and stakeholders. Northport’s PRF is the first on-site facility in Malaysia to provide waste solutions by managing scheduled and non-scheduled waste in compliance with the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) standard.

Apart from this, Port of Tanjung Pelepas has been selected to be part of the Partnerships for Infrastructure, a Government-to-Government project between Malaysia and Australia that aims to spearhead the country’s decarbonising effort in the maritime industry and to foster inclusive growth through sustainable infrastructure in Southeast Asia.

Up in the Northern region, a significant milestone was achieved by Andaman Port Sdn Bhd where they successfully completed the first Ship-to-Ship (STS) transfer activity at Yan Port Limit, located just 5 nautical miles from Pulau Bunting, Kedah. To add more to this achievement, the port has become the first major port in the northern region of the Straits of Malacca to handle two Very Large Crude Carriers (‘VLCC’) inside its port limits. The Hong Kong-registered VLCCs with a length of 333 metres and 330 metres respectively and a maximum draft of 21 metres were the largest vessels to be handled by the port to date. These STS operations underline a solid collaboration between MMC Ports and federal and state authorities including Ministry of Transport Malaysia, Marine Department of Malaysia, State Government of Kedah Darul Aman as well as various government agencies to ensure the operations are carried out in a safe and efficient manner.

Under Energy & Utilities division, Malakoff has announced its rebranding exercise marking its transition into a sustainable and green-centric organisation. The rebranding exercise saw the change of its brand identity with fresh visuals and incorporates a renewed business purpose, building on Malakoff’s ongoing strategic transformation to shape a greener future.

On a lighter note, just recently the highly anticipated MMC Games 2023, witnessed enthusiastic participation from all operating companies across the Group. This exciting event that took place at UiTM Shah Alam has brought together more than 1,200 talented employees to showcase their best performance through good sportsmanship. Furthermore, the MMC Games serve as a platform to foster collaboration, encourage healthy competition, and reinforce our commitment to building a vibrant and engaged workforce. Congratulations to Northport (Malaysia) Berhad who has emerged as the winner and to all the operating companies who displayed unwavering determination and outstanding performance throughout the MMC Games!
