MAIN EDITOR'S NOTE IN BUSINESS CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY ENGAGEMENTS HIGHLIGHTS

On 28 May 2016, Prime Minister of Malaysia YAB Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak launched the second package of Pan Borneo Sabah Highway Project in front of more than 10,000 crowd at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Balung, Tawau, Sabah.


Prime Minister, YAB Datuk Seri Mohd Najib was also joined by YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman, Chief Minister of Sabah, YB Dato' Seri Hishammuddin bin Tun Hussein, Minister of Defence, YB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof, Minister of Works, YB Tan Sri Datuk Sri Panglima Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Development together with YBhg Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia at the launch event.


The second package will see the upgrading of Tawau - Sandakan route beginning with the Tawau-Sempona road from single carriageway to dual carriageway for 5km from KM43 Pekan Tawau to KM48 at Semporna Tawau Check-Point roundabout. The first phase is expected to begin in early June 2016 followed by the remaining phases expected to begin by stages in 2017 until 2018.


Speaking at the event, Prime Minister, YAB Datuk Seri Mohd Najib shared that “Upon completion, the highway will bring about greater connectivity and this will be a catalyst for development in Sabah.”


UEM MMC Joint Venture Sdn Bhd, a 50:50 jointly controlled entity of MMC Corporation Berhad has a 40% stake in Syarikat Borneo Highway PDP Sdn Bhd (BHP), the appointed Project Delivery Partner for Pan Borneo Sabah.
