Northport Signs MoU to Establish Biomass Logisctics Hub

Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a Member of MMC Group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cenergi Sea Sdn Bhd (Cenergi), Bioenergy Machinery Sdn Bhd (Bioenergy Machinery) and Environmental Preservation and Innovation Centre Sdn Bhd (EPIC) to establish a centralised processing hub in Southpoint catering for various types of biomass such as palm kernel shell, palm pellet, woodchips, wood pellet and other biomass materials.

The MoU was signed by Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Northport, Dato’ Leong Kin Mun, Director of EPIC who is also the President of Malaysia Biomass Industries Confederation, Ir Bernard Ryan Simon, Head of New Ventures of Cenergi and Mr Eddy Chin Chief Executive Officer of Bioenergy Machinery. The signing ceremony, held at the Royal Selangor Yacht Club, Port Klang, was witnessed by En Zainal Azman, Senior Vice President, Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation Sdn Bhd and Mr Ernest Navaratnam, Chief Executive Officer of Cenergi Group of Companies.

Under the MoU, Northport will provide the required land for the operations while Cenergi is expected to provide the capital investment. Bioenergy Machinery will supply and install the state-of-the-art machineries and manage the operations while EPIC will establish the necessary quality standardisation and certification recognised by the potential buyers.
