Northport Extends Its Green Initiative Commitment Through 3R Programme

Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group, continued to demonstrate its commitment towards environmental protection through the Company’s annual 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) programme known as “Ayuh Kitar Semula” (AKS). The fifth series of AKS or AKS 5.0 programme, recorded the highest collection after more than 51 tonnes of recyclable items were successfully collected throughout the campaign. AKS 5.0 was held in partnership with Alam Flora Environmental Solutions Sdn Bhd (AFES), a fully owned subsidiary of Alam Flora Sdn Bhd under the Malakoff Corporation Berhad.

The much-anticipated annual programme was organised with the objective of inculcating the culture of conserving the environment among Northport employees through reduce, reuse and recycle. Northport employees participated in AKS 5.0 by collecting recyclables such as paper products, plastics, metal waste, aluminium, electronic waste, used cooking oil and other recyclable items. To promote healthy competition among divisions and departments within the Company, Northport recognised the programme’s highest contributor with a Challenge Trophy and other prizes.

Finance Division emerged as the overall winner of AKS 5.0 with a total collection of 12.80 tonnes. Meanwhile, in the individual category, Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Northport retained his title as the highest contributor with 445 kg of recyclables.

The success of AKS 5.0 is a manifestation of Northport employees’ awareness of their responsibility towards environmental sustainability of the port as well as their expression of commitment towards the green port status.
