Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group participated in the 13th biennial International Harbour Masters’ Association (IHMA) Congress at Hilton Kuala Lumpur. With the theme “Shaping for a Better, Safer Future”, the congress was officiated by YB Datuk Seri Ir Dr Wee Ka Siong, Minister of Transport Malaysia.
The Congress, which was hosted by the Port Klang Authority and supported by the Ministry of Transport Malaysia, was a proud moment for Malaysia after being the first Asian country to host the event.
IHMA Congress featured several programmes including conference, exhibition and technical site visit, where the participants were taken for a tour to Port Klang, including Northport. The tour provided the delegates with an insight of the Port Klang operations, facilities and the on-going development of the 12th busiest port in the world.
Nearly 200 delegates from 30 countries participated in the 4-day conference and trade exhibition with over 40 speakers and panelists deliberating on sustainable capacity building, decarbonisation, digitalisation, safe maritime transport and emerging green technologies. Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Northport was featured as one the speakers with a presentation titled “Northport’s Journey Towards Becoming a Safer, Greener, Smarter and Better Port”.
Northport also participated in the exhibition together with Port Klang Authority, Westports and PKFZ, under the Port Klang booth.
IHMA is a professional body with members in more than 50 countries. The Association brings together Harbour Masters and all those who hold managerial positions with responsibility for the safe, secure, efficient and environmentally sound conduct of marine operations in port waters.
