Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group, has enhanced its business synergy with SITC Container Lines Malaysia Sdn Bhd (SITC) following the opening of SITC’s new depot facility in Port Klang, Selangor.
On 1 June 2022, SITC officially launched its new depot at Taiwanese Industrial Park, Bandar Sultan Suleiman, Port Klang. The new facility, operated by Smart Depot Service (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, was jointly officiated by Northport’s Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof. Also present were the General Manager of T.S. Container Lines Malaysia, Hank Liang, General Manager of Cosco Shipping Lines Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Jamie Song, Chairman of the Malaysian Container Depot Association, Saravanan Saminathan, Chairman of the Selangor Freight Forwarders & Logistics Association, Dato' Tony Chia and Chairman of the Association of Malaysia Hauliers, Soo Chee Yeong.
The new depot facility offers services for container storage, equipment maintenance and other related services to the depot users. Its strategic location within the matured industrial area and adjacent to Northport terminal will further boost SITC’s volumes with Northport.
SITC commenced its operation in Port Klang in 2016 through Starline Agencies Sdn Bhd. The company started their business through slot purchase and today, SITC is operating five services at Northport. From a humble beginning of 1,837 TEUs handled in Northport in 2016, SITC has made great strides and consistently registered significant business growth. Last year, SITC handled a total of 60,665 TEUs at Northport and in the first five months of 2022, the company recorded a total volume of 58,108 TEUs, a significant growth of 212% against the same period last year.
The opening of SITC’s new depot will strengthen the company’s presence in the local business landscape, especially in Port Klang and at the same time benefit the industry players. The new depot facility will further boost Northport’s position as Malaysia’s preferred gateway port.
