Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (Senai International Airport), a member of MMC Group has concluded its emergency preparedness drill via a Tabletop Exercise based on the Senai International Airport Emergency Plan at Senai Business Aviation Terminal. The exercise mimicked an A320 passenger aircraft crash.
The primary objectives of this exercise is to promote the optimal response of all existing agencies involved in airport emergency operations, allow for a real evaluation of procedures and the plan for participants to gain a good understanding of agency roles, actions, limitations and find positive solutions. This exercise was also part of compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organisation and Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia which require airports to conduct a full-scale exercise every two years and the Tabletop Exercise annually.
Using a large-scale airport layout to simulate the incident of the A320 passenger aircraft crash, the participants were required to coordinate, communicate and manage their responses to minimise the effects of the incident, particularly in respect of saving lives and to normalise the operation. This was followed by debriefing and reporting of the outcome, to improve the response during a real emergency. The panel of evaluators then summarised their critical assessment performance and the result of the exercise, including explaining and illustrating the errors to participants.
A total of 70 participants were involved in this exercise from multi-organisations and agencies such as Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue Department, Health Department, Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital Kulai, Sultanah Aminah Hospital, National Security Council, Chief Government Security Office, Immigration, Customs, Travel Control Office, MAQIS, Meteorology Department, AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, Batik Air, General Aviation, Air Traffic Control and many more.
“The safety and security of our passengers is the airport’s highest priority, and the work we put in today will help us be more effective tomorrow,” said Kennedy Ayu, Chief Executive Officer of Senai International Airport.
