Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), a Member of MMC Group became the first port in Southeast Asia to welcome Madrid Maersk, a 20,568 TEU container vessel and the first “second generation” Triple-E class vessel owned by Maersk Line, the world's largest container shipping company.


The maiden voyage of Madrid Maersk to PTP was commemorated at a special welcoming event organised by PTP. During the event, Mr. Prakash Thuraraisasingam, PTP’s Head of Commercial, handed over a special memento to Niels P. H. Larsen, Captain of Madrid Maersk.


Madrid Maersk is on its maiden voyage for the Asia – Europe (AE 2) service loop of the 2M alliance network. The vessel, which previously berthed at Yantian, China is scheduled to make the next port of call at Port of Algeciras, Spain.


The 2nd generation Triple-E’s nominal capacity is 20,568 20-ft containers (TEU), nearly 2,000 more compared to prior generation. The Madrid Maersk measures 399 meters in length and a width of 58.6 meters.
