Johor Port Berhad (Johor Port), a member of MMC Group, was invited by the Johor Port Authority (JPA) for a meeting with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and Jabatan Agama Islam Johor (JAINJ) to work on a strategic collaboration to strengthen the halal industry, especially in the port sector.
In line with the Malaysian Government’s commitment to develop the halal industry sector, JPA aims to obtain the Malaysian Halal Certification by positioning Johor Port, Malaysia’s Southern Getaway Multi-Purpose Port, as one of the key players in the halal supply chain for delivery of halal products to the end customer through its gateway.
The growing significance of ports in the halal supply chain network is also attributed to their position and key role in an efficient halal supply chain. It is also noted that the port’s pivotal role requires particular attention and needs to explore how its effective functionality can enhance the halal supply chain performance.
JAKIM and JAINJ delegations led by Bukhari Md Akhir, JAKIM’s Director of Halal Department were then taken for a port tour in Johor Port and witnessed the process of food container inspection performed by Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (MAQIS).
The meeting session concluded with a commitment by JAKIM and JAINJ to look into the concerns and requests raised by the JPA and Johor Port.
