The construction of Tanjung Bin New Coal Unloading Jetty (NCUJ) marked 26 February 2019 as a celebration for the achievement of clocking 1 Million Safe Man Hours Without Loss Time Injury (LTI). “HSE Compliance Is Loss Prevention” was chosen as the theme for the celebration that aimed at highlighting the importance of good health and safety practices at the work place. NCUJ is a part of Tanjung Bin Energy Power Plant, wholly-owned by Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff), a member of MMC Group.

Present during the celebration were En Azhari Sulaiman, Senior Vice President, Operation and Project Management Services Division of Malakoff and En Wong Chin Sing, Project Director of the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning contrator.

“Achieving 1 million safe man hours without LTI is a steep hill to climb. Thank you to everyone for your continuous efforts in contributing to this achievement,” Sanny Abu Bakar, Project Manager of the NCUJ, expressed his gratitude to fellow on-site colleagues for their commitment and hard work.

In May 2018, the NCUJ project was awarded 5 Stars for the Safety and Health Assessment System in Construction (SHASSIC) rating by scoring 85% for an assessment on the level of health and safety in security. This was based on Construction Industry Standard 10:2008 carried out by the Construction Industry Development Board representatives at the project site on 9 and 10 April 2018. The SHASSIC 5-star rating is rarely given in the construction industry and this signifies a high level of compliance with safety and health regulations at the NCUJ work site.
