In line with its annual zakat obligations, Gas Malaysia Berhad (Gas Malaysia), a member of MMC Group, together with Yayasan Pelajaran MARA (YPM) held a cheque handover ceremony at Menara MARA, Kuala Lumpur.
The ceremony was organised to commemorate Gas Malaysia’s partnership with Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) in an effort to assist low-income B40 school students who are qualified under the asnaf category. The financial assistance will benefit up to 1,400 school students who will be sitting for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examinations throughout Peninsular Malaysia, selected by District Education Offices and YPM. The ceremony was led by Dr Hasnita Hashim, Chairman of MARA and En Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap, Chief Executive Officer of Gas Malaysia.
Through this initiative, Gas Malaysia hopes to assist the underprivileged school students who are from the lower economic background predominantly in rural areas. Commenting on this initiative, En Ahmad Hashimi said, “Gas Malaysia saw the need to assist this group. Education is highly important, especially for the nation’s younger generation. Economic disparities should not be a cause of a gap within our education system.”
“This effort also portrays our keen commitment on the nation’s education development, in line with one of our corporate social responsibility pillars; namely, Community, Sports, Education and Environment”, En Ahmad Hashimi added.
