Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (Senai International Airport), a member of MMC Group, successfully conducted an emergency evacuation exercise led by its Airport Fire and Rescue Services Department (AFRS) to assess the readiness and coordination between the airport authority and relevant Government agencies in the event of fire at the airport terminal building.

More than 100 participants from various agencies including the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (BOMBA), Royal Malaysian Police, Immigration Department of Malaysia, Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Health Department, Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services, Airport Emergency Response Team and  Senai International Airport community members (involving Senai International Airport, airlines, retailers, tenants, contractors and passengers) took part in measuring their effectiveness and response time in controlling fire disaster.

The exercise scenario involved a fire incident at the basement parking of the terminal building which requires the whole building occupants to evacuate and move to the assembly point while the AFRS and BOMBA firefighters battled out to extinguish the blaze and rescue the ‘victims’. The AFRS team successfully put out the fire in within one minute and the whole exercise took about 30 minutes to complete. A post-exercise evaluation was conducted to identify the areas of operations that could be improved.

The emergency evacuation drill exercise is being carried out to assess emergency readiness and response among all occupants at Senai International Airport as per the Airport Emergency Plan, a documented procedure and contingency plan to attain corresponding action amongst all relevant stakeholders based on the distinct guidelines and in compliance with the requirements by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
