Johor Port Prioritises in Maintaining the
Highest Level of Safety and Security through Competency Enhancement Programme for its Auxiliary Police Force
Johor Port Berhad (Johor Port), a member of MMC Group organised Firearms Training programme for its Auxiliary Police force at Ladang REM Shooting Range in Kota Tinggi, Johor.
The 2021 Bi-Annual Firearms Training aimed at enhancing the usage of firearms through up-to-date training and improving the level of preparedness when encountering any situation involving firearm usage.
The Johor Port Auxiliary Police is responsible to ensure utmost protection from any potential threats whether by land, sea or air. They provide patrolling and 24-hour surveillance at all entry and exit points to various facilities within the port as well as enforcing both port and maritime safety regulations at Johor Port’s waterfront.
Md Derick Basir, Chief Executive Officer of Johor Port and Jamaludin Raja Mohammad, General Manager, Port Security and Safety Department were present during one of the training sessions to witness and evaluate the efficiency of Johor Port Auxiliary Police in handling firearms.
The training programme consisted of practical training on the procedures and safety aspects of handling firearms, followed by ‘Centre Fire’ gun and ‘Falling Plate’ pump-action gun skills. The weapons used during the training were Glock19 9mm gun type firearms and 12-bore pump guns. The training session ended with a swearing-in ceremony by all the participants. The next firearms training will be conducted in October 2021.
The Johor Port Auxiliary Police are authorised to carry firearms as they are the primary responders for all reported crimes and incidents within its jurisdiction. The team comprises of 85 officers and members of which five of them are women.
As the Southern Gateway Multi-Purpose Port, Johor Port will continue to strengthen its Auxiliary Police Force and prioritise in maintaining a safe and secure environment for its port users and customers.
