Northport Receives Working Visit From The Ministry of Transport Malaysia

Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group received a working visit from the Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT) delegation led by YB Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport. The Minister was accompanied by YB Dato’ Kamarudin Jaffar, Deputy Minister of MOT, YB Datuk Seri Hj Saripuddin Hj Kasim, Secretary General of MOT, YB Charles Santiago, Klang’s Member of Parliament and senior officials of MOT.


During the visit, Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Northport, briefed the delegation on Northport’s history, performance and issues facing by Northport and Southpoint and presented its short-term, medium term and long-term development plans. Dato’ Azman also shared on Northport’s Halal Silk Route (HSR) and Biomass Logistics Hub initiatives with the delegation.


HSR, which was initiated through a strategic collaboration between Northport, Kontena Nasional and Weifang Sime Darby Port to create a Halal trade value chain between Malaysia and China, has opened up bigger opportunities for more strategic collaboration with other ports worldwide to promote Halal trade and at the same time benefit Malaysia’s Halal exporters. The Biomass Logistics Hub is a commercial collaboration between Northport, Cenergi Sea Sdn Bhd, Bioenergy Machinery Sdn Bhd and Environmental Preservation and Innovation Centre Sdn Bhd to develop a centralised processing hub in the Southpoint catering for various types of biomass materials. This collaboration was initiated with the aimed at developing an end-to-end value chain for the biomass industry.


The MOT’s working visit was concluded with a tour of Northport to provide an in-depth experience of the port’s operations and facilities to the Minister and his delegation.
