MMC Pembetungan Langat Sdn Bhd (MMC PLSB), a member of MMC Group, successfully launched its First Flow event for the initial flow of 65,000 Population Equivalent (PE) into the Langat Centralised Sewage Treatment Plant (Langat CSTP) in Kampung Sungai Balak, Kajang.

The event was graced by YB Dr. Xavier Jayakumar, Minister of Land, Water, and Natural Resources (KATS) with the presence of Ir. Syed Jaafar Idid Syed Abdyllah Idid, Director General of Sewerage Services Department, Dato’ Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, Group Managing Director of MMC Corporation Berhad, Mohd Razin Ghazali, Chief Operating Officer of Technical & Engineering MMC Corporation Berhad, Mohd Abdul Fatah Endut, Project Director of Langat Sewerage Project, project team and senior officers from local authorities.

This marked the first milestone and achievement of MMC PLSB simultaneously signifies the operation’s readiness for the plant to treat sewage inflow from Cheras and Kajang in stages. The next flow of 230,000 PE which covers approximately 40% of the catchment areas will be received by next year.

The treatment plant will be able to treat effluents within Standard A Category 1 parameters as required by the Department of Environment under the Environmental Quality Act 1974 - Environmental Quality (Sewage) Regulations 2009.

The Langat CSTP is capable to accommodate sewage inflow of 207,000m³ in a day or 920,000 PE for the next 20 to 30 years. It covers a total of 77.6km² catchment areas which are Cheras Batu 11, Cheras Jaya, Desa Baiduri as well as Kajang 1 and 3. The plant is constructed with a recreational park, 16 badminton courts, two takraw courts, two basketball courts, two futsal courts, a children’s playground and a community hall to benefit the surrounding neighbourhood and community well-being.

This RM1.5 billion-worth project is specifically designed to reduce the ammonia pollution level along Sungai Langat and expected to be completed by 2023.
