Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB), a member of MMC Group, welcomed four new Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTGs) cranes at North Butterworth Container Terminal.

The 8-wheel cable reel Mitsui RTGs which manufactured in Japan, was transported by Zhi Xian 2 vessel that sailed from Oita, Japan on 3 March 2020. The RTGs are capable to stack over five containers high and six containers wide.

These new RTGs were purchased to replace four outdated RTGs in line to improve the efficiency and to minimise the Repair and Maintenance cost. With a total of 31 RTGs owned to date, PPSB will be able to improve their productivity of container handling especially in the yard area.

The welcoming ceremony was held during the period of Movement Control Order and PPSB has taken precautionary measures by minimising the number of workers involved to lessen the risk of Covid-19 infection.
