On 22 March 2024, Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff)'s wholly-owned subsidiary, Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (Alam Flora) organised the 'Kongsi Rezeki Bubur Lambuk 2024' event by distributing 1,500 bubur lambuk in reusable containers to the public. The aim was to encourage the utilisation of reusable food containers brought to the Ramadan bazaar. The event took place at its Drive Through Recycling Centre, Aeon Wangsa Maju. Also in attendance was the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), YB Dr Zaliha Mustafa assisted in distributing the bubur lambuk and reusable bags.
The objective of this initiative was to avoid excessive purchases that often lead to wastage and an increase in waste at the landfills.
Alam Flora's Chief Executive Officer, Adam Saffian Ghazali, said this is a small effort by Alam Flora to initiate a shift towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly shopping habits by minimising the use of plastic bags.
"If, on average, you use three plastic bags when buying food for a month during Ramadan, and if you replace them with food containers, you would have reduced by as many as 90 plastic bags and polystyrene packs from being disposed of. If multiplied by hundreds of thousands of people. Imagine," emphasised Adam Saffian Ghazali.
As a comprehensive waste management organisation, Alam Flora has committed to providing uninterrupted waste collection and cleaning services as the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration approaches and festivities commence, ensuring continuity and cleanliness for all.
This initiative is part of Malakoff's business pillar, 'Malakoff Environmental Solutions' aspiration to focus on environmental management and solutions that are dedicated to serving communities and the planet. It is also in line with the UN SDG Goal No. 11, which aims at making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable and supports Malakoff's overarching purpose of 'Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities'.
