On 28 February 2024, Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff), a member of MMC Group, organised its inaugural recycling event where 1,765 kg of recyclable items such as used cooking oil, electronics, old newspapers and magazines were collected from the Malakoff team at its head office in KL Sentral. Giving support to this sustainable initiative was its Managing Director & Group Chief Executive Officer, Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib, where he spared time from his busy schedule to be with the team at the collection centre while offering words of encouragement and motivation.
From 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, the items brought in by Team Malakoff were meticulously segregated by the dedicated staff of Alam Flora Environmental Solutions Sdn Bhd (AFES), a member of Malakoff. Some even seized the chance to declutter their storage spaces. They identified unused items considered recyclable and submitted them for weighing. The items were categorised by waste type and prices for each item had been pre-determined and communicated through an internal newsletter.
Speaking on this initiative, Anwar Syahrin thinks this is a positive step forward in achieving the national recycling rate target of 40% by 2025.
"Preserving the environment encompasses various methods, and recycling stands out among them. Instead of discarding unused items, which can contribute to landfill overflow, it is better to gather and recycle these materials. Given that sustainability is a core value for every organisation, it should also be ingrained in each individual. Consider this a modest contribution to environmental conservation."
This initiative is part of Malakoff's commitment to environmental conservation as we identify and coordinate relevant programmes to foster a recycling culture while simultaneously raising awareness about its significance. Aligned with UN SDG Goal No.12, it contributes to ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns, staying true to our brand purpose of 'Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities.'
