ATB Held Ground-breaking Ceremony

for International Maritime Organisation 2020

Fuel Refinery and Storage Tank Project

ATT Tanjung Bin Sdn Bhd (ATB) held a ground-breaking ceremony for its International Maritime Organisation (IMO) 2020 Fuel Oil Refinery and Storage Tank Project in Seaport Worldwide Sdn Bhd’s Industrial development area at Tanjung Bin Petrochemical and Maritime Industrial Centre, Johor. Seaport Worldwide Sdn Bhd is a member of MMC Group.

ATB plans to build a separation and processing unit together with six new storage tanks to handle and store crude oil products to supply IMO 2020 compliance fuels. This project is subsequent to the new regulation by IMO effective from 1 January 2020, where marine vessels have to reduce sulphur emissions by over 80% by switching to lower sulphur fuels. This project is under their Phase 2 expansion adding to the current 1.1mil m³ capacity which was completed in Phase 1. The project has commenced in May 2019 and will be completed in May 2020 with an estimated investment of RM600 million.

The event was attended by Dato’ Kho Hui Meng, President and CEO of Vitol Asia, accompanied by Nor Syazlan Abd Razak, Yang DiPertua Majlis Daerah Pontian and Aernout Boot, General Manager of ATB.  Attendees from MMC Group were represented by Mr Gan Seng Keong, MMC Property General Manager and representatives from Seaport Worldwide, Johor Port and Port of Tanjung Pelepas.

The ground-breaking ceremony is a testament of the potential for Tanjung Bin Petrochemical and Maritime Industrial Centre as the preferred location for Petrochemical and Maritime Industries to set up their operations in Malaysia. The ceremony adds another milestone to Seaport Worldwide after the completion of ATB’s Phase 1 development in 2016. Hence with this, Seaport Worldwide is optimistic about attracting more investments to its development. Congratulations ATB and Seaport Worldwide.
