On 13 September 2023, Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff) and its subsidiary, Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (Alam Flora) successfully hosted an environmental-focused event entitled 'Preserve Nature for Future' at Malakoff Academy of Excellence. Aimed at promoting awareness of making sustainable choices through recycling, the event was attended by Azman Shawal, Manager of Corporate Communication and Branding of Alam Flora; Shamsul Anuar Othman Head of Group Safety of Alam Flora; Subrina Thiagarajah, Head of Operations and Project Management Services of Malakoff; Dr Ramizu Abd Rahim Head of Group Safety of Malakoff and Malakoff's employees.
Concentrating on educating Malakoff employees on the importance of recycling for a sustainable future, the event was officiated with an opening remark by Dr. Ramizu before proceeding to its key highlight - a presentation by Alam Flora representatives, Wan Ahmad Fareez Amir and Aliya Nor Azman on Alam Flora's recycling initiatives that focus on sustainable waste management and alternatives that can be adopted to replace single-use plastics.
Both speakers also shared the facilities that Alam Flora currently offers to drive the interest of the public to shift their perspective on recycling and recycled materials. Its Fasiliti Inovasi Kitar Semula (FIKS) not only has an Integrated Recycling Facility (IRF), but also serves as an educational hub for people to further educate themselves on the types of recyclable items and how they can be converted to oil, and more. A boutique - Butik 3R - that houses recycled clothes can also be found at FIKS.
There were also fun activities and interactive booths for attendees to let loose and enjoy themselves. The programme effectively got Malakoff employees involved and showed them how small choices can have a big impact on the environment through recycling.
This initiative is part of Malakoff's continuous efforts at environmental preservation through various activities that focus on sustainable waste management and circular economy. It is also in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 12 which emphasises on sustainable consumption and production patterns.
