Effective 24 April 2024, Batik Air has reinstated its Haikou flight service from Johor Bahru, operating twice weekly every Wednesday and Saturday. The inaugural flight which started from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) – Johor Bahru (JHB) – Haikou (HKU) utilises Boeing 737 aircraft with a spacious interior to ensure comfort and efficiency. This maiden charter flight organised by the Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association (MCTA) in collaboration with Guangzhou Weizan Airlines Service Co. Ltd and Hainan Yang Travel Air Group Co. Ltd, along with co-organisers China Sichuan Airlines Co. Ltd and Batik Air Malaysia marked a strategic partnership aimed at fostering greater tourism exchange between the two countries.
As quoted from The Star Online, MCTA President Paul Paw expressed optimism regarding the venture, foreseeing a significant influx of Chinese tourists into the state. Paw estimated that nearly 20,000 Chinese tourists annually would be attracted to Johor, boosting the local economy and tourism sector.
