As part of its continuous initiative to cultivate the habit of reading among the younger generation, Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff), a member of MMC Group, sponsored books to its six adopted schools in Lumut, Perak and Prai, Penang on 10 and 17 January, respectively. The handover was held at Dewan Sekolah Kebangsaan Segari in Lumut and at the library of Sekolah Kebangsaan Khir Johari in Prai by Lan Sukaimy Md Yusof, Lumut Power Plant Manager and Mat Nasir Mohamed, Prai Power Plant Manager. The event was attended by Headmasters and Headmistresses and representatives of Parents & Teachers Association (PTA) from the respective adopted schools.
A collection of numerous reading materials with topics ranging from school syllabus academic-focused publications to story books where students can read in their past time to improve their language proficiency and comprehension were selected by Malakoff for this initiative. As many of these schools are situated in rural areas, access to reading materials can be difficult as it would require parents to travel out to get hold of these books, especially during the examination season. Therefore, Malakoff hopes with the support provided, the students will have access to all their academic needs as they begin their new academic year.
A similar event was also held in 2022 for Malakoff’s seven adopted schools in Pontian, Johor.
This event is part of Malakoff’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, focusing on the Community pillar where it demonstrates our continuous commitment to support our adopted schools in Lumut and Prai. Besides enhancing our relationship with various stakeholders and the local communities, we hope that initiatives like these will further cultivate the spirit of ‘giving back to the community’ while fostering a stronger bond between one another.
