Alam Flora Continues to Promote Sustainability Through its Signature Programme Waste is Amazing

Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (Alam Flora) took one step further in its efforts to cultivate the practice of 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) among the public by organising Waste is Amazing Fashion Competition 2022, a fashion design competition using material that can be reused and recycled such as used clothes, paper, newspaper, plastic bags, boxes, plastic bottle caps and aluminium cans.

With the theme Amazing Fantasia: Where Animations Come to Life, the competition saw 10 aspiring local designers from all over Malaysia, pitting their creative ideas in both design and handiwork, creating colourful designs inspired by anime characters

"The initial selection was made by our committee members as we received a very encouraging turnout of more than 30 submissions. This shows that public awareness of 3R, its importance, benefits and interest is growing," said Dato' Mohd Zain Hassan, Chief Executive Officer of Alam Flora.

“The act of using recycled material to make clothes is nothing new. It has been practiced decades ago and is increasingly popular in Western countries through what is now known as Circular Economy. Therefore, we expect this initiative by Alam Flora to create opportunities and help increase 3R acculturation to reduce the volume of solid waste at landfill sites in Malaysia,” added Dato’ Mohd Zain Hassan.

The first-prize winner of Waste is Amazing Fashion Competition 2022: Amazing Fantasia brought home a cash prize of RM2,000.00 and 30,000 Petronas Mesra Card points. The second-prize winner walked away with a cash prize of RM1,500.00 and 20,000 Petronas Mesra Card points, while the third-place winner received a cash prize of RM1,000.00 and 10,000 Petronas Mesra Card points. For the Best Social Media category, the selected winner received RM300.00 in cash and 5,000 Petronas Mesra Card points. All winners also received trophies, sashes and certificates of participation.
