In conjunction with the International E-Waste Day held every 14 October, Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff) joined hands with the Department of Environment (DOE) Malaysia in the ‘Jom E-Waste’ Carnival as a strategic partner. The event took place on 15 and 16 October 2022 at KL East Mall and was officiated by Dr Norhazni Mat Sari.  Deputy Director General (Development) of DOE.

The International E-Waste Day was introduced in 2018 through the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Forum to raise awareness on WEEE recycling and promote the importance of disposing E-Waste through the right channels to avoid hazardous environmental pollutants. In Malaysia, E-Waste is categorised as scheduled waste under the code SW 110, First Schedule, Environmental Quality (Scheduled Waste) Regulation 2005.

Malakoff was joined by its subsidiary, Alam Flora Environmental Solutions (AFES) who organised several fun activities related to the company’s sustainability initiatives. Nurul Akmar Abdul Karim of AFES also delivered a Pocket Talk on the company’s role as a sustainability partner. During the event, winners of an E-Waste-themed choral speaking competition from participating schools were also present to showcase their talents. The competition was organised nationwide by DOE as part of their initiative to instil environmental awareness among school children.

Malakoff’s participation in this event is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production which focuses on decoupling economic growth from environmental degradation, increasing resource efficiency and promoting sustainable lifestyles. We need to do our part by reusing and recycling as much as possible, and we truly hope that this initiative will further instil awareness and encourage everyone to play their role in addressing the global e-waste issue
