Johor Port’s JP Skills Centre Wins the Malaysia

Education & TVET Awards 2022 As the Best TVET Training Provider (Ports & Logistics)

On 20 October 2022, Johor Port Berhad (Johor Port), a member of MMC Group, through its JP Skills Centre, won the award for the Best TVET Training Provider (Ports & Logistics) in the recent Malaysia Education & TVET Awards 2022 (META 2022).


The inaugural META 2022 programme aimed to honour and recognise personalities, educational and business entities in Malaysia that have excelled in providing the best in the formal education sector inclusive of all the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) service providers in the country.


Johor Port was represented by Md Derick Basir, Chief Executive Officer of Johor Port who received the award from Hajah Zanariah Haji Ahmad, Director of TVET Division of the Ministry of Education. It was also attended by Dr Nazry Yahya, Head of JP Skills Centre,


The high-quality training programmes designed by JP Skills Centre have also received numerous recognitions locally and globally. JP Skills Centre was named the 2019 World Best Port and Terminal Training Provider by the international Global Ports Forum. It is not only accredited by the Department of Skills Development (Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran), a national accrediting body for national vocational qualifications for port equipment training but also certified by the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD), as an authorised training provider for UNCTAD Train For Trade Modern Port Management Program for English speaking networks.


Recently, JP Skills Centre has broadened its horizon through a strategic collaboration with University Teknologi Malaysia in offering the world’s first Professional Master in Port Management, to enhance the fundamentals and operational knowledge of port professionals not only in Malaysia but also overseas.


Established in 2014 as the Training Division of Johor Port, JP Skills Centre is the Centre of Excellence for MMC Ports and has trained more than 7,000 port and logistics officers in Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Ghana and Nigeria.
