MAIN EDITOR'S NOTE HIGHLIGHTS IN BUSINESS ENGAGEMENTS CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

On 7 November 2022, Johor Port Berhad (Johor Port), a member of MMC Group, organised the Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption (ABAC) seminar for the year 2022 at Renaissance Johor Bahru Hotel.


With the objectives of increasing awareness on the enhancement of integrity and prevention of corruption among the employees of Johor Port, Tanjung Bruas Port Sdn Bhd and KTMB-MMC Cargo Sdn Bhd, the event saw more than 400 participants joining the hybrid seminar which was also broadcasted via Zoom and Facebook Live platform. They comprised of the management team, Government agencies, associations, stakeholders and personnel of Johor Port. Present to grace the occasion were TPJ Dato’ Haji Azmi Haji Alias, Director of MACC Johor; Firdaus Ramlan of CJ Global Venture; Koo Lik Chi, Head of Inspection and Consultation Unit of MACC Johor; and Dr Nazry Yahya from Johor Port Skills Centre.


The event began with the Awareness Workshops led by Dr Nazry Yahya, entitled “Competitiveness Opens Up Corruption Possibilities in Logistics and Supply Chain Industry”, and followed by Koo Lik Chi on the “MACC (Amendment) Act 2018 Section 17A: Corporate Liability” which touched on all the regulations and laws related to corruption activities. Firdaus Ramlan also presented on the “Ekosistem Rasuah” based on his experience as a former magistrate being convicted on a corruption charge and subsequently arrested and imprisoned in 2009.

 

The event then recommenced with the welcoming remarks by Hermee Tahir, Head of Johor Port’s Human Resources Division which touched on the importance of this Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Seminar in relation to the company’s core values, specifically on the aspect of integrity and honesty while demonstrating mutual respect.


The seminar continued with a Forum Session, “Kasi Cuci Pungli (Banteras Rasuah)” which involved all the panelists, including TPJ Dato’ Haji Azmi Haji Alias, Dr Nazry Yahya, Firdaus Ramlan and Rahimah Rahmat from Johor Port’s Corporate Planning and Risk Management Department as the moderator. The Forum emphasised on the preventive measures that must be practiced based on all five Trust Principles and encouraged all participants to unite in fighting corruption activities while simultaneously providing them an opportunity to interact with the panelists during the Q&A session.


This Anti-Bribery and Anti-Corruption Seminar is a medium for all employees to be aware of the consequences of corruption particularly within the logistics and supply chain industry. The information shared by all the panelists will encourage employees to cooperate with each other in curbing any encountered corruption activities.
