On 11 July 2024, Kontena Nasional Berhad (Kontena Nasional), a member of MMC Group, celebrated the arrival of the ASEAN Express from Chongqing, China at the Kontena Nasional Inland Clearance Depot (KNICD), Petaling Jaya. This ceremony, held with KTMB and Masavan Logistics, marked the return of the ASEAN Express from its first full journey, carrying 20 wagons of 40-meter containers.
The journey was previously launched on 27 June 2024 by the YB Tuan Anthony Loke, Minister of Transport at KNICD. The launch event was attended by Ouyang Yujing, Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia; Lada Phumas, Thai Ambassador to Malaysia; Lao Phetwilaychanh Shouvannarth, Deputy Head of Mission; Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, Chairman of Kontena Nasional; Nik Muzani Nik Abdul Aziz, Chief Executive Officer of Kontena Nasional; Datuk Rani Hisham Samsuddin, Chief Executive Officer of KTMB as well as Zheng Xiangdong, Deputy Mayor of Chongqing, who joined online.
The ASEAN Express is expected to enhance trade between Malaysia and China, reducing transit time to nine days compared to 14-21 days by sea. As a key trade hub, Kontena Nasional ensures smooth goods movement along the ASEAN Express route, and connects KTMB with businesses across Southeast Asia.
The arrival ceremony was attended by Hairulnizam Tokiban, Division Head of Operations, Kontena Nasional; Vera Ann Villenguez, Division Head of Business Development and Solutions, Kontena Nasional; Mohd Zain Mat Taha, Chief Operating Officer of KTMB and Dato' Tan Keng Choon, Executive Director of Masavan Logistics.
