Fostering a Culture of Safety at Senai Airport Terminal Services on HSE Day 2024

Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (Senai International Airport) successfully held its highly anticipated HSE Day 2024, a one-day event dedicated to promoting health, safety, and environmental awareness among its employees and partners. The event, which took place on 29 August 2024, was attended by Senai International Airport employees, the management team, airline representatives, and invited government agencies, highlighting the airport's commitment to cultivating a strong safety culture.


The ceremony was officially launched by Hj. Mohd Hazlim Husain, Senior Assistant Director of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Johor, alongside Kennedy Ayu, Chief Executive Officer of Senai International Airport. Hj. Mohd Hazlim, in his officiating speech emphasised the importance of a proactive approach to safety and praised the efforts of Senai International Airport in making HSE Day a cornerstone event for the organisation.


With this year's theme, "Cultivating Safety Culture", HSE Day 2024 focuses on five core values: taking care of oneself, caring for others, protecting the environment, reporting hazards and incidents, and complying with all safety requirements. These principles are the foundation of Senai International Airport's safety protocols and serve as a guide for every individual involved in the airport's operations.


In conjunction with the event, Senai International Airport through its commercial division also launched a digital reporting system for hazards and incidents using QR codes, which will be displayed throughout the airport premises. This transition from manual to digital reporting is designed to make the process more convenient, enabling faster identification and rectification of issues, thereby enhancing overall safety and operational efficiency.


During the event, Senai International Airport also presented Safety Recognition awards to three outstanding individuals namely Ryna Irdawatty Konta, Tenant Management Department, Abdul Rahim Abd Manap, Facilities Management Department, and Muhamad Zuhairi Zamri, Facilities Management Department, and under the department category, the award was presented to IT Services department. This is an acknowledgment from HSE for their exemplary efforts in adhering to HSE standards and demonstrating a commitment to workplace safety.


Among the highlights of the event, insightful sharing sessions by invited speakers, who brought fresh perspectives on current health, safety, and environmental issues. Started off with a talk by Dr. Hj. Muhamad Zaini Fikri bin Mohd Yusop from the Ministry of Health (MOH), he shared valuable insights into zoonotic and vector-borne diseases, focusing on the emerging threats of monkeypox and malaria. Followed by a forum discussion featuring Ir Ts Zuraidi Hanafi bin Hanafi, Head of the Investigation and Prosecution Section of DOSH Johor, and Nur Zafirah binti Mohd Ariffin, Senior Executive Officer of SOCSO, who discussed trends and issues related to occupational accidents.


During the second half of the event, Md Nastain bin Mahazur, Director of Air Navigation Services Safety Division of Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) Malaysia, shared the safety procedures practised at CAAM. The event concluded with a talk by Dr. Zulfikar bin Ahmad, Psychology Officer and Director of the Centre for Psychological & Counselling Services at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), emphasising the importance of mental health and well-being in maintaining a safe workplace environment.


Throughout the day, exhibition booths were also set up by various government agencies and authorities, namely; National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), National Anti-Drugs Agency (NADA), Malaysia Meteorological Department (MET), Asia Aeronautical Training Academy (AATA), The Solid Waste Management and Solid Waste And Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) Johor, and many more who offered valuable knowledge and resources; reinforcing the message that safety is everyone's responsibility.


The enthusiastic response from all attendees showed that HSE Day 2024 is more than just an event; it serves as a platform that encourages continuous dialogue and improvement in health, safety, and environmental practices. By embedding these core values into our daily routines, Senai International Airport aims to ensure a safer, healthier, and more sustainable workplace for all.
