Senai International Airport Celebrates the Commencement

of the Inaugural Direct Flight From Johor Bahru to Madinah

An intimate and simple celebration event was held on 23 July 2024 as representatives of Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (SATSSB) management team, AMAL and Malaysia Airlines, Tiram Travel Sdn Bhd, and Tourism Johor gathered at the Serindit VIP Lounge of Senai International Airport before handing over special goodies to the passengers of the inaugural direct flight from Johor Bahru (JHB) to Madinah (MED) by AMAL.

Present for the welcoming celebration were Cik Noor Safura, General Manager of SATSSB, Encik Roslan, General Manager, Commercial & Marketing of Malaysia Airlines Group, Tuan Hj. Md Yusoff, Managing Director of Tiram Travel Sdn Bhd, and Puan Nur Maziah, Assistant Director of Tourism Johor.

Launched in 2019, AMAL by Malaysia Airlines is the dedicated Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage arm of Malaysia Airlines which is based in KLIA Terminal 1, hence, the commencement of direct flight from Johor Bahru marks the airline's first direct flight to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia outside of its home base. Tiram Travel Sdn Bhd, a travel agent based in Johor, brought in 120 Umrah pilgrims together with three mutawif onboard.

Apart from facilitating Umrah pilgrims, the introduction of direct flights from Johor Bahru to Madinah and from Jeddah to Johor Bahru opens new opportunities for locals, but also business professionals and travellers from neighbouring regions, such as Batam, Sabah, Sarawak, as well as Singapore. Utilising the Airbus A330-200, the two aisles, wide-body aircraft is built with 284 seats, including 18 Business Class and 256 Economy Class promising safe and comfort.

The simplified check-in processes and easy access due to the compact size of the airport makes Senai International Airport an ideal choice for travellers. With the addition of this new route, Senai International Airport now operates to 19 destinations: 12 domestic and seven international.
