On 1 July 2025, Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff), a member of MMC Group, conducted a benchmarking visit to Dabong, Kuala Krai, Kelantan to assess the progress and implementation of three small hydropower projects under RP Hydro (Kelantan) Sdn Bhd. The visit was also attended by representatives from Tanjung Bin Power Plant (TBPP) and Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (Alam Flora).

The primary purpose of the visit was to observe the ongoing development at the Kemubu, Kuala Geris and Serasa Small Hydropower Plants. The visit aimed to obtain an on-ground update on each site's progress and evaluate key aspects such as safety, health, environmental compliance and project-related risks. The engagement also served to strengthen coordination between all parties involved in the development.

Throughout the visit, the delegation noted that all three project sites demonstrated steady construction progress. On-site safety protocols, particularly those relating to work zones and welfare facilities for workers, were reviewed and evaluated. The team also assessed various risks including those related to contractors, terrain conditions, execution strategies and safety standards. Additionally, initial observations were made concerning environmental impact, including water flow management, biodiversity protection and engagement with local communities.

Key lessons from the visit highlighted the value of real-time field observations in understanding safety protocol adherence and identifying site-specific risks early in the process. These insights will support the implementation of more proactive planning and mitigation strategies across similar projects.

In conjunction with its 50th anniversary this year, Malakoff remains guided by its overarching purpose of 'Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities', reaffirming its commitment to safe, responsible and sustainable energy development. This initiative also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), particularly Goal 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy, Goal 9 - Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and Goal 13 - Climate Action, as we continue to drive progress through collaborative and environmentally conscious project execution.
